Skip the Salad, Get the Steak?!

By ywhealth

A salad doesn’t always equal the best meal option. Take for example the Pecan-Coated Chicken Salad at T.G.I. Friday’s. It seems to be healthy: romaine lettuce, madarin oranges, dried cranberries, pecans, celery, and blue cheese are all foods on the good-for-you list (although we would prefer the pecans without glaze, and the blue cheese to be reduced fat or part skim motzerella).

But this salad packs 1,360 calories!

Now, take a 10-ounce sirloin steak from Friday’s. It has 290 calories! Pair that with a small side salad with tomatoes and cucumbers and you’ve got a perfect meal.

Next time you’re thinking that the salad is the best option, take a good look at what is actually on the lettuce, and beware the dressing. Salad dressing can add hundreds of calories and double the fat content of your “healthy” choice.

Tip: Always get the dressing, garnishes, and sauces on the side. Dip your fork into the sauce instead of smothering your food. Who knows, you may actually like how it tastes without.
