Help the LaJolla Seals!

By ywhealth

In order to be healthy, we have to live in a healthy environment. That means surrounding yourself with good people, friends, family, and also doing your part to protect and better the environment.

Today, a very serious matter came across my desk threatening the environment, and a very special place for many people. In LaJolla, Casa Beach is home to around 200 harbor seals. Although this shallow wading spot was designed back in the day for children, the seals began using the beach in the 70s, and continue to use it today. Seals need to be on land for a portion of time to survive. And if you are lucky enough, you will find them sunning themselves on the beach, talking to one another, or in the spring, teaching their pups how to “walk”.

I am sad to report that a judge has recently ruled a ridiculous order to dredge the beach and take the seals’ home away because some idiotic woman sued the city for not being able to swim there. There is also talk of the seals contaminating the beach, although they are natural beings. This is their habitat..not ours. (I think any “pollution” is coming from the humans surrounding their home.)

I urge everyone to write a letter or an email to the LaJolla city officials. Let them know that no matter where we live, we care about protecting our beaches and the animals that call these waters home. Because once they take away the sand, the seals will have no place to go. And if they try to come back, word is that guards will be hired to scare them from returning. It’s incredibly sad to think that these seals, who bring so many people so much joy, could be gone.

I personally saw a mother teaching her baby how to move in the sand last spring (hence the photo) , and it is hands down one of my favorite memories. I sat for what seemed like ever on a bench and just watched them. It’s a chance to see nature in a natural environment, and nothing, certainly no zoo, could compare to this spot. Other animal species are very concerned about the seals to the point where they are crying to the creator for help. Please never stop what you are doing.
I wander how people would fill if crowds traumatized the only place they had left to live and rest? I imagine these people that want the seals gone is the same way they want a foriegn people to do to them. Traumatized them with no though of compassion. The seals only have a small piece of land. It not even considered land but just a spot on the shore. I am ashamed of the way the majority of mankind thinks. Haven’t they harmed the earth enough.
